Chapter 17 - Physics of Solids - 8

Physics Class 12
1. Stress does not cause any change in length, volume and shape.

2. Strain is a measure of deformation of a solid due to applied stress.

3. Volumetric strain is the ratio of change in volume to area.

4. When the opposite faces of a rigid cube are subjected to shear stress then shear strain is produced.

5. Modules of elasticity is the ration of stress to strain.

6. Strain is a dimensional quantity.

7. Shear modules is the ration shear stress to shear strain.

8. If the stress increases beyond yield stress the deformation produced is temporary.
