Aliphatic Hydrocarbons - 11

Chemistry Class 12
1.    Hydrocarbons are organic compounds which contain carbon, hydrogen and oxygen only.

2.    For alkanes with five or more carbon atoms the root word is derived from the Greek numeral indicating the number of carbon atoms in a molecule and the name is completed by adding ane as a prefix.

3.    Hydrocarbons have been divided into various classes on the structure of the ring.

4.    Number the longest chain of an alkane from the end of the chain nearer to the substituent.

5.    If a hydrocarbon contains more than one triple binds it is named as alkadiene or tiene depending on the number of triple bond.

6.    The solubility of alkanes decreases with increase in molecular mass.

7. Incomplete oxidation of alkane occurs in a limited supply of oxygen or air and results in the formation of CO2 and carbon block.
